Another great letter Dave. Why does the e-mail have the above title though? That was an old story that went nowhere in my opinion. J

Hey J, that must have been from an e-mail I sent you before that somehow had that title. I must have forwarded you a link or a forward of an article with that title.

I know it went nowhere, but it was fascinating anyway. It was ultimately inscrutable, but not without meaning. Meaning that is paradoxical, absurd, but somehow fascinating. Some times I think these guys are the biggest thrill junkies in the world. They are utterly giddy with the power they now have -- and who wouldn't be? It's hard to even contemplate how powerful they are. I think of the implications for a couple of seconds straight and my mind begins to blur. But they can never get away from it. Every morning they wake up with it. The drug trading part of their operations is not as significant in its criminal aspects (which is in itself mind-blowing) as in the metaphor. These guys may never touch the white powder, but they are the biggest speed freaks of all.

That statement he made at that phony "town meeting" was just plain bizarre, and then he repeated the whole question-answer series almost verbatim at another one of those things. And I can't help but wonder, what is this guy doing? What kind of a space does he occupy. He is so nuts.

He seems to be involved in some global brinkmanship that never stops, from his mad frat rat days of getting arrested for ripping down goalposts through his national guard piloting, coke binging, alcohol megabuse, the dirty tricks campaigns first of his dad's then of his... THE COUPS! THE SWINDLES! THE EXECUTIONS! THE MASS MURDERS!! These mo fos are out! They are more crazy than most people with power because they've had it a long time now and the consolidation is massive.

When Bush blurted out that absurd tale about seeing the planes, you can't tell if he's playing a weird joke or what. In some ways, their whole thing is a headtrip, a huge one. I don't even know if they themselves know what they are up to. Then after saying this whacky stuff about how he saw the first plane hit on TV while he was waiting to go talk to the school kids -- rather than hiding in embarassment, he repeats the thing, blatantly, not a trace of subtlety. But the monumental cynicism of thinking he can get away with that, with not even having to bother to come up with a credible lie!
