A Pentagon Strategy for Provoking Terrorist Attacks

Believe it or not -- and now we are really into the fringes of psychotic behavior by people purported to be mature, rational adults in positions of responsibility -- if terrorist attacks aren't enough for you the way things are now, the Pentagon under Rumsfeld has a plan for provoking more.

According to an article by Bill Berkowitz at Working for Change:

The DSB's [Defense Science Board's] recommendation for a Proactive, Preemptive Operations Group appears to be in line with President Bush's National Security Strategy, which called for preemptive military strikes. Military Analyst William Arkin writes that P2OG would "bring together CIA and military covert action, information warfare, intelligence, and cover and deception." The organization "would launch secret operations aimed at 'stimulating reactions' among terrorists and states possessing weapons of mass destruction -- that is, for instance, prodding terrorist cells into action and exposing themselves to 'quick-response' attacks by U.S. forces."

Isn't that just sweet? Next time you see Donald Rumsfeld pull back his cheeks in a hideous grin you'll know that his maniacal appearance is more than just skin deep.
